Controversy! In his recent post to the Extropians list, Robin Hanson recommends this book highly:
"I consider myself to be
a grump with high standards: most outrageous ideas are junk, and I
hope that by being very selective in endorsing very few ideas, the few
endorsements I make (such as pro-cryonics) will be taken seriously.
So please listen when I say (and note how unusual this statement is):
STRAUSS & HOWE ARE RADICAL, IMPORTANT, AND PROBABLY MOSTLY RIGHT!"

Such bold statements invite controversy. Lee Daniel Crocker quickly posted back:
| "From all of
the available evidence I have of [the author]'s books, including discussions
here and the content of their web pages, I see no evidence that taking
the time to read the whole book would produce any benefit for me in
terms of increased knowledge or skills or even entertainment."

Who are you going to listen to? Prophecies that turn on cycles of history have a dodgy reputation,
but Robin Hanson, a brilliant and productive transhumanist intellectual, seems willing to stake his reputation on Strauss & Howe's prophecy. I am intrigued.
